Description
On the rugged coast of the unique Isle of Skye lies south of Dunvagan directly on the shore of a bay as if conjured up, the snow-white small distillery Talisker. Two brothers founded the distillery in 1831, and after their deaths numerous others took over the attempt to continue the distillery. All failed until a financial manager and a wine and spirits merchant succeeded in taking over. Talisker was triple distilled until 1928, then only double. After a fire in 1960, the distillery was rebuilt true to the original. Today, Talisker belongs to the Diageo spirits group. The distillation of Talisker 44 Years Old Single Malt was inspired by a ship expedition led by Parley for the Oceans to one of the largest kelp forests in the entire world near the Cape of Good Hope. On board the ship were Talisker cask staves. These were charred with a small amount of sustainably farmed Scottish seaweed, as well as stave wood chips, before the maturation of the single malt was completed. This rarity matured in these sea oak casks for over four decades before being bottled. Born from the sea, Talisker Forests of the Deep was created as a reflection on the power and beauty of our oceans. The goal of Talisker and Parley's long-term partnership: to raise awareness and support the protection and conservation of marine ecosystems around the world by 2023. Limited to 1,997 bottles worldwide. Tasting notes:Color: Deep, clear amber with excellent sparkle. Nose: Soft with a peppery tingle, nuances of seaweed, salt crystals, warm oak, lemon peel, toffee. Taste: smoky-sweet, umami, spicy, oily-soft texture. Finish: long lasting, chili pepper.
