Mount Gay was founded in 1703 with the name Mount Gilboa. Owned at the time by John Sober, the small distillery was located on the summit of Mount Gilboa in the parish of St. Lucy, Barbados. The Sober family hired a fourth-generation Barbadian, Sir John Gay Alleyne. His innovations were so successful that the Sober family renamed the distillery in his honor - Mount Gay. Trudiann Branker is the first female Master Distiller at Mount Gay Distillery. Branker dedicates the fourth release of Mount Gay's Master Blender Collection to Andean oak, a non-traditional wood species. Barrels are used for 11 months and distilled twice in traditional copper pot stills. Maturation is in ex-bourbon barrels for 14 years. The bottling is not chill-filtered. Tasting notes:Color: Bright amber. Nose: Vanilla, candied fruit, floral notes. Taste: Rich, balanced, spicy, notes of nuts, almonds, vanilla. Finish: Long lasting.
