Lochlea Distillery is an independent single malt distillery based at Lochlea Farm in Ayrshire, near Glasgow in the Lowlands. The old farm was converted into a distillery with bonded warehouse. The distillery began operations in August 2018. Former Laphroaig Distillery Manager John Campbell runs the family business. Robert Burns, Scottish poet, lived on the farm and farmed from 1777 to 1784. The barley for production is grown and harvested in-house. The water is obtained from limestone springs deep below the distillery. This allows full traceability from the field to the bottle. This single malt whiskey matures in first fill bourbon barrels, oloroso sherry butts and STR barriques. The bottling is not chill-filtered and not colored. Tasting notes:Color: Bright amber. Nose: Strong, notes of pear syrup, fruit candy, jam, cinnamon. Taste: Fruity, lush, notes of fresh fruit, cereal. Finish: Long lasting, macadamia nuts, vanilla, orange. Best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
