Laphroaig is a whisky distillery on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay and is owned by the Japanese-American Beam Suntory group. The buildings of the distillery are classified in the Scottish heritage lists. In the production of Laphroaig, barley malt is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavor.
Each sip of Laphroaig Lore (Gaelic for lore) tells a centuries-long story about the distillery with its blenders and master craftsmen.
Five different casks find their use for this single malt, including small 19th century quarter casks for a velvety smooth texture, large oloroso sherry butts for fruity sweetness and toasted ex-bourbon casks for a hint of vanilla.
The spirits range in age from seven to 21 years, from rough to smooth, so each can lend its own story to the finished whisky.
